The most satisfying part of my job role is inspiring students to have the confidence to become beauty therapists and work in their dream careers.
Melissa knew that since previously studying Beauty Therapy at Lancaster & Morecambe college, that she wanted to come back to where she started her career and share her knowledge with future LMC students joining the industry.
I knew I wanted to come back and teach students and help them to gain the knowledge and skills here at Lancaster & Morecambe College.
In 2014, Melissa started volunteering as a tutor at LMC, alongside achieving her teaching qualifications in Certificate in Education Level 5. She then became a Beauty Therapy lecturer in 2016 and fulfilled her dream of inspiring others within the Beauty Therapy industry.

Melissa takes pride in her work and is responsible for teaching Level 2 Beauty Therapy Apprentices and Level 3 Beauty Therapy Apprentices as well as teaching our part time learners Level 2 Nail Technology in our very modern onsite The Salon, which is a great educational setting for students to express themselves, working on real life clients.
We have our on-site The Salon which is modern and a great place for educational learning.
When asked what advice she would give to someone who is thinking of applying for a Beauty Therapy course at LMC, she said:
Be prepared to work hard as it takes a lot of practice, but practice makes perfect! Beauty Therapy is an amazing career to go into, you can take your qualification anywhere in the world and there are plenty of career opportunities within the industry.

I would say come to College, study Beauty Therapy, be pampered, pamper clients, but be prepared to work hard for the qualifications to get far in the industry. It's a very rewarding career to go into, putting smiles on clients faces and giving them a new found confidence.
My favourite part of this role is working with such an amazing team here at Lancaster & Morecambe College, and also being able to pass on my industry knowledge to all my students and support them in their journey to becoming a Beauty Therapist.
I really enjoy being part of the LMC Beauty Team and working within the department. Watching my students grow and develop their ideas and skillsets week on week is a really exciting part of my role, particularly when I can see them challenging themselves to get creative and try out new and different ideas.
