I really enjoyed the project aspect of my apprenticeship, as I got the chance to work on an area of the business which previously I didn’t have anything to do with as part of my day-to-day role. As a result of this I learnt a lot about the project area and worked with new colleagues from across the institution. Writing my project report and presentation helped me to recognise the progress I had made and the impact the project had on the institution, as well as identify the new skills I learned.
Caitlain studied a Business Administration Level 3 Apprenticeship here at LMC after taking on a new position at Lancaster University within the Organisational Development team, to strengthen her skills as an Apprentice.
As part of a Business Administration Apprenticeship, you are required to carry out a significant project. Caitlain describes this project as being the most enjoyable part of the course as it allows you to choose an area to work with and really develop your knowledge and confidence in that area.

An Apprenticeship is a great way to enhance your knowledge, skills and behaviours as you complete a qualification along side working on the job. It gives you the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in various areas of business, which can be invaluable in advancing your career.
Completing the apprenticeship helped me to develop my communication and project management skills, which I have implemented into my job role. Throughout my time on the apprenticeship, I developed my skills across all areas of my role. I also learnt new leadership skills and behaviours and am now more resilient, self-aware and a better communicator. All of these new skills have been recognised by my employer as I was asked to step up and take on more responsibilities.
Since completing her apprenticeship, Caitlain has secured a new job role within her organisation. The apprenticeship has given her to confidence to chose her own career path.
Within my current job role as an Administrative Assistant, I am responsible for the scheduling and running of our staff development workshops and programmes. I also support several strategic projects andI will soon be moving on to a new Project Management role. My interest in applying for this role came from completing the project for my apprenticeship and from working on projects within my current role.
Caitlain's hard work was recognised at the 2024 Lancashire Apprenticeship Awards where she was honored as the overall winner in the Advanced Apprenticeship category.
Since completing my apprenticeship, I have been awarded ‘Advanced Apprentice of the Year’ in the Lancashire Apprenticeship Awards. This was a huge accomplishment for me, and it provided me with recognition for the work I completed in my role and during the apprenticeship.
Industry specific apprenticeships are a great way to learn new skills and knowledge, achieve a recognised qualification and earn a wage. Customer service is the corner stone of every successful business, and courses at LMC will help you identify, improve and introduce these skills successfully.
Teaching is my favourite part of the role, I love being able to help people reach that lightbulb moment in class! I also enjoy being able to inspire the next generation of Residential workers.

It’s really difficult to state just one thing I love about working at Lancaster & Morecambe College because there are so many! I really wanted to work here because the college has a fantastic reputation. I love introducing new ways of working and keeping up with relevant trends to improve the course, and I really enjoy the supportive environment that we create for our students.
I enjoy being part of the team and thinking of new ways to support local businesses in realising their potential. Watching learners transition from a one-day course to gaining qualifications motivates me to continue teaching at LMC.
The course gives people experiences of business in many forms which can be used in a huge variety of possible future careers – past students have gone on to work in sectors as diverse as fashion, charities, social media, nuclear energy, defence manufacturing and the public sector.
