Before starting my Apprenticeship, I had very little confidence in myself and found it hard to do anything that involved stepping outside of my comfort zone, so being here has really helped.

Georgia Simm is a Business Administration Apprentice at Knight Training UK, which is one of the largest UK providers of licenced, retail training. On a day-to-day basis, Georgia handles customer queries towards licencing, logs incoming and outgoing post, filters customer calls and lets them know their results.

Before commencing her Apprenticeship, Georgia completed a Traineeship at Lancaster & Morecambe College. The Traineeship Scheme has been developed for learners who aren’t quite ready to go straight into an Apprenticeship, and builds on necessary skills such as confidence, presentation and professionalism.

Building confidence is a huge part of Georgia’s journey; the small team at Knight Training has allowed Georgia to make close friends with others in her office, who she thanks for giving her the extra push to excel in her role.

Before starting my Apprenticeship, I had very little confidence in myself and found it hard to do anything that involved stepping outside of my comfort zone, so being here has really helped.

I have gained the basic skills needed in a professional office environment such as confidently answering the phone and speaking to customers, rather than holding back and doubting myself.

Ian Simpson, Company Director, can resonate with Georgia as he too was apprentice-trained, many years ago;

As far as the apprentice themselves is concerned, they need an environment where they can make mistakes and learn to eventually give them confidence and pick up new skills.

He describes the Apprenticeship Scheme as a good way for any local business to put back into the community; taking an apprentice on and helping them move forward in their life, as someone once did with him.

As well as her administration duties, Georgia also looks after the company’s social media channels and designs digital content to promote the business. This is a result of grabbing opportunities within the workplace and building a portfolio in preparation of completing her Apprenticeship.

The Apprenticeship has worked out so well for Georgia that she’d like to stay at Knight Training for a couple more years upon her successful completion, and she now has her sights set to become a Finance Director in the future.
