I have significantly improved my communication and collaboration skills at LMC.

Poppy studied at a secondary school in China but due to the lack of sports courses and athletic opportunities, she decided to join LMC to further her passion for sports in education and her personal life.

Poppy chose to study Sport Level 3 due to her interest in the wide variety of topics within the sporting industry. She wants to use her knowledge gained on the course to progress to higher education to study nutrition.

The Sport Level 3 course covers a wide range of topics from business to anatomy and physiology and is generally all encompassing in relation to every aspect of the sporting industry. I have always been incredibly interested in sports and athletics, and LMC offers a wide range of opportunities within sports, therefore making it the perfect college for me.

When asked what her favourite parts of the course were, Poppy said:

My favourite aspects about the Sport Level 3 course at LMC is the practicality of the course alongside the generous amount of theory studied. For me personally, there is a perfect balance between the practical aspects of the course and the theory and coursework assigned. This allows me to both progress within an academic setting and my personal sporting endeavors being powerlifting, as well as advancing my knowledge and understanding of the theory side of the sporting industry such as the business and coaching aspects.

Learning key skills in her studies, such as communication and collaboration has helped Poppy work in a variety of group projects and team-based course work, something she enjoyed. The course also supported her in developing her leadership skills and growing her confidence when speaking in front of large groups of people. Other skills Poppy developed while at LMC included time management and the ability to balance her time between work, social and academic priorities.

The Sport Level 3 core for LMC has benefited me professionally in a wide variety of ways. Firstly it helped me develop my collaboration and communication skills, which are transferable between almost every single professional field. Secondly the course fosters a sense of personal independence and self-reliance which is incredibly important when moving into higher education and into professional scenarios where keeping on top of work and managing my own schedule efficiently is my responsibility wholly.

While on the course, Poppy achieved one of her biggest accomplishments so far. Poppy competed for team England at the 2024 Powerlifting Commonwealth Championships in Sun City, South Africa! Poppy said how much she appreciates the college for supporting her with endless resources to allow her to excel both academically and personally in a sport she hopes to pursue as a professional career in her future.

I was incredibly proud and excited to represent LMC College on an international stage, as the college has significantly aided and supported my power lifting career. Due to the colleges understanding of personal independence, and work-personal balance I was able to complete to a high level all of my coursework at college as well as achieve all of my training and preparation for an international competition.

We asked Poppy, what would you say to someone who was thinking about doing the Sport Level 3 course?

If I was speaking to a prospective student looking to study at LMC college on the Level 3 Sport course I would encourage them enthusiastically. The course has helped me develop a much better understanding of a work, social, academic and personal life balance, as well as fostering a sense of responsibility and individuality. The course has helped me develop various interpersonal skills and grow as both the student and an athlete in and out of the college grounds.

I would heavily influence a prospective student to pursue a sporting career both in and out of college, as there is an endless amount of support and facilities offered to aid and help them succeed to the highest level possible. Additionally, the course is ideal for those who hope to pursue higher education as it is regarded highly by various universities, and due to the courses push for independence and self-reliance it prepares students incredibly well to move into a higher education lifestyle where they are self reliant and dependent on the themselves to succeed.

Poppy expressed her desire to advance into higher education at either Durham or Manchester Metropolitan University to become a nutritionist. ALongisde her studies, she also hopes to become a professional athlete in the next five to ten years and compete in BUCS as well as other international competitions for her chosen university.

We couldn't be prouder of everything Poppy has achieved in her time at LMC. We wish her all the best with her further studies and hope to see her name in lights very soon as the professional athlete she deserves to be. Well done!
