Because of my age I never thought I would be able to do GCSE English and Maths again. Michelle and Barbara were absolutely amazing, they were so patient and gave me the help and encouragement I needed to believe in myself.
My experience with resitting in college couldn’t have gone better, and if there is anyone who may have to resit at LMC in the future here are my tips:
Do it, apply! If you want to work in the hospitality and catering indsutry this course is for you, you learn skills for life. My career wouldn't be possible without the course.
It’s all thanks to the course I took and my amazing tutors, that I now have my dream career! I would highly recommend the course to anyone wanting to go to university, without the Access course I would never have had the opportunity as I only had 1 GCSE when I left high school.
Laura was amazing, she was so supportive with assignments but also with my university application. It got me back into studying again and I learnt how to write academically after 10 years without studying.
What impressed me about LMC was the campus. It had a lovely atmosphere, and was easy to navigate. The animal care department also has some fantastic facilities, including a rodent room, exotics room, and an outdoor area for rabbits, guinea pigs, birds, and ferrets
100% do it! The Access to HE course helped me develop my skillset further particularly in time keeping, communication, team work and problem solving; all useful skills which I will carry with me into my degree course at university. The staff are so supportive too, and the course gives you the chance to meet people with common career interests as well.
Having the opportunity to volunteer with so many activities was something I really enjoyed. It increased my confidence and helped me develop new skills which helped me get where I am today. I specifically enjoyed helping out at opening evenings and helping people make the big decisions when it comes to further education.
Whilst studying Sport Level 4 HNC, I was chosen to fly out to Slovakia, fully funded for 3 weeks. My role there was a Youth Worker where I worked with young people who spoke very little English, I helped organise and lead sessions and supported those with English as their second language.
I enjoy helping the staff at College in my role as a Catering Assistant and being a part of a great team. I really like helping and supporting all the students to gain the confidence they will need further on in their lives, and techniques within the hospitality industry they will require in their careers.
I chose the Business Support with Marketing Level 3 Apprenticeship as it aligns with my desired career path. The staff at Lancaster & Morecambe College are incredibly supportive and helpful, no question or request is too big. They even provide outstanding support even when you are in your workplace, which has been a huge help with my theory work. The modules on the course relate to what I do in my workplace, and have helped me with tasks within my role.
As I was a Hairdressing Apprentice at Lancaster & Morecambe College over 10 years ago, when I opened my own salon I really wanted to help a young person to learn the skills of the industry and pass on my knowledge.
