The Bookkeeping AAT Level 2 Certificate is a perfect entry point for anyone wishing to start a career in Accountancy & Finance. This course will allow you to develop specialised skill or gain recognition for the skills you already have. The qualifications comprise two mandatory units via way of assessment:
• Introduction to Bookkeeping
• Principles of Bookkeeping Control

On completing this qualification you will develop the underpinning skills required in all Accountancy and Finance roles. You will use bookkeeping skills to confidently perform Accounting Transaction and understand how to process financial information in accordance with set procedures and schedules.

On successful completion of this course you will gain an AAT Level 2 Certificate in Bookkeeping a qualification.

Course Overview

The topics covered on this course include:

Introduction to Bookkeeping:

  • How to set up Bookkeeping Systems

  • Process customer transaction

  • Process supplier transaction

  • Process transactions into ledger accounts

Principles of Bookkeeping Control:

  • Use of Control accounts

  • Reconcile a Bank statement to the Cash Book

  • Use the journal

  • Produce Trial Balance

Home study will also be required, and although students will have varying needs and abilities, we would recommend an additional 1-3 hours of independent learning a week.

Industry Links

You might also want to consider taking this course as an Apprenticeship. The course content would remain the same, with the same attendance requirements, but you would also be supported in the workplace by both your employer and an assessor from College.

Progression Routes

Progression Opportunities following this course include:

  • AAT Level 2 Certificate in Accounting

  • AAT Level 3 – Certificate in Bookkeeping

On completion of this qualification you could progress onto an Accountancy-related role, such as:

  • Trainee bookkeeper

  • Finance assistant

  • Accounts administrator

  • Clerical assistant

Additionally, you may also like to progress on to the Accounting (AAT) Level 3 Advanced Diploma.

Entry Requirements

This qualification has no formal entry requirements, however having a good standard of maths and English will be key to success on this course. Accountants are the heart of the business, so having great communication skills will also be important for communicating information clearly to different stakeholders.

Course Fees

This course costs £580.00, including exam fees.

You may be eligible for free study if you are 23 or under and this is your first full Level 2 or 3 course. Alternatively, if you are unemployed, receiving an eligible benefit, and taking the course to help you find employment.
