This course is designed for 16-18 year olds and will be delivered as a study programme which includes work placement, as well as Maths & English where applicable.
The course is suitable for those who would like to pursue a career working with animals. The course will include theory-based lessons where you will learn how to care for animals, alongside practical workshop sessions where you will apply the theoretical knowledge to help to look after the College collection of over 150 animals.
On the Animal Studies Pathway coures you will study a range of topics including:
Health & Safety in the Work Place
Movement and Handling of Animals
Feeding and Watering Animals
Maintenance of Animal Accommodation
Employability Skills
All students aged 16 -19 are also required to study Functional Skills Maths & English qualifications or GCSE Maths & English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.
If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study maths &/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of maths & English Functional Skills.
Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant Maths & English qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment. All LMC students will receive tutorial support.
You will be expected to undertake regular home study on this course and will need to wear suitable clothing for practical work and working outside e.g. a waterproof jacket with work boots or wellingtons.
To assess you throughout your studies, you will complete projects, exams/online tests and practical performance observations.
For this course you will work towards a Level 1 Certificate in Practical Animla Care Skills.
This course can lead to study at the next level in Animal Care, a Traineeship or employment.
