This course is a good introduction for someone wanting to work in the Construction industry. Starting with little or no experience, Brickwork Level 1 will build your practical skills and prepare you with the theory knowledge ready to progress to Level 2.
This course is 50% practical based with the 50% theory split between Construction theory and Functional Skills or GCSE. For those with GCSE grades at 4 or above more practical training will be provided to progress your skills.
During the course you will be tested on your theory knowledge as well as completing a practical test to prove your skills.
As your practical skills improve you will be encouraged to build more complex models which will develop your skills and prepare you for Brickwork Level 2 or a relevant Apprenticeship.
LMC has guest speakers along with joint events for all students. There is also an excellent opportunity to take part in National Citizen Service (NCS) which gives learners opportunities for bonding and stepping outside of their comfort zones.
In Brickwork we have practical competitions to see who can build the best and the fastest and there is always the chance to work alongside new friends.
Your main challenge is to enjoy your work, take part in activities and try to make each piece of work better than the last.
On completion of this course you will receive Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Employment in the Construction Industries.
We have many links with employers who have their apprentices with us. This can lead to requests for recommendations. So, if you are keen, well-motivated, with good attendance and timekeeping this could be an excellent opportunity for you.
Upon course completion you may progress onto the Level 2 Bricklaying qualification or move into employment by starting a Level 2 Apprenticeship.
You can discover all the opportunities available to you by exploring the full list of careers in the industry.
