This course will develop your knowledge of young children and help you to develop a range of skills in the early years sector. It will also help to prepare you for Level 2 study.

Upon completion of this course you will receive a Pearsons BTEC Level 1 Introductory Diploma in Caring for Children Under Five.

Course Overview

You will study:

  • Being Organised

  • Developing a Personal Progression Plan

  • Working With Others

  • Researching a Topic

  • Planning a Safe Childcare Environment

  • Encouraging Children to Eat Healthily

  • Providing a Pre-School Children's Reading Activity

  • Providing an Activity to Support Children's Numeracy

  • Providing a Children's Physical Activity

Most of the work and study takes place in your timetabled College attendance, although occasionally you may be required to complete some study at home.

The course will include a substantial amount of careers related learning designed to support learner progression to the suitable next step, this could include educational trips, employability skills sessions and employer encounters such as guest speakers.

You will have the opportunity to complete work experience with children and young people, or in a care setting, as well as study a range of units aimed to improve employability and personal development skills.

Progression Routes

This course will provide you with the knowledge and confidence to progress onto the Level 2 in Children’s Play, Learning and Development or the Health & Social Care Level 2.

Entry Requirements

To study this course you must have 3 GCSEs at grade D/3-G/1 plus grade F/2 or higher in GCSE English or Maths.

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional English and Maths qualifications or GCSE English and Maths if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher.

Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant English and Maths qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.
