This course is for students who wish to work in the construction industry and progress onto Level 3 Carpentry & Joinery or an apprenticeship.

Course Overview

The course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in the construction industry or those who are progressing from Level 1 Carpentry & Joinery.

You will study the following:

  • Using portable power tools

  • Fixing skirtings, architraves and hinged doors

  • 1st Fixing Before Plastering

  • 2nd Fixing After Plastering

  • Using Circular Saws

All LMC students will receive tutorial support throughout the course.

Progression Routes

The course can lead on to Level 3 Carpentry & Joinery or Apprenticeship.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including English or maths OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in English or maths.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English & maths qualifications or GCSE English & maths if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study English &/or maths GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of English & maths Functional Skills.

Students aged 19+ are strongly encouraged to take relevant English & maths qualifications to support progression into further or higher education, training or employment.
