This course covers the knowledge required for a career in the in the engineering and power industries, including extended certificates in Engineering, Applied Science, and Maths.

Engineering Level 2 is aimed at preparing students to enter the world of engineering by grounding them in working safely and effectively plus interpreting and using engineering information together, with an introduction to computer aided design (CAD).

This course is suitable for school leavers and adults who would like a career in mechanical, electrical, electronic, production, smart or medical materials engineering, or maintenance operation in major installations and power plants.

Course Overview

You will study the following:

  • Maths for Engineering Technicians and using mathematical tools in science.

  • Interpreting and using engineering information, and engineering maintenance procedures.

  • Application of physical science, chemistry and our Earth

  • Biology and energy in our environment

All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including English & Maths.

LMC has guest speakers along with joint events for all students. There is also an excellent opportunity to take part in National Citizen Service (NCS) which gives learners opportunities for bonding and stepping outside of their comfort zones.

Progression Routes

Upon course completion many of our students choose to progress onto the Level 3 TechBac in Engineering or the Level 3 City & Guilds Engineering course, while some students choose to progress onto the Level 3 Engineering Technician Apprenticeship programme. Opportunities for full time employment in the sector may also be available.

  • Ceramics Engineer.

  • Equipment Engineer.

  • High-Pressure Engineer.

  • Marine Engineer.

Entry Requirements

4 GCSEs at grade D/3 or higher including English & Maths, OR a Level 1 related qualification PLUS grade D/3 or higher in English & Maths.

All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English & Maths qualifications or GCSE English & Maths if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.

If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study English &/or Maths GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of English & Maths Functional Skills.

Entry criteria will be applied at the discretion of the course manager.
