GCSE Maths is a 1-year Part Time course in which you’ll improve your maths skills, and study towards either a Foundation (grades 1 – 5) or Higher (grades 4 – 9) GCSE qualification, this will be discussed with you by your tutor. This course is suitable for those wanting to improve their CV, gain access to university, enhance employment opportunities, to support children in their studies or for personal satisfaction.
The course will take place as a 2.5-hour session, once a week, with the option of attending at either Lancaster & Morecambe College’s main campus, or Morecambe Learning Centre. Evening sessions will be considered according to demand.
The final exams take place in May/June and involve three 1.5-hour exams (1 non-calculator, 2 calculator) with results available around the 3rd week in August.
Can I study for free?
If you are studying a legal entitlement course such as English, Maths or Essential Digital Skills - Entry Level, Level 1, or Level 2, or are unemployed, or earn less than £25,000 gross salary, then the answer is YES! When you enrol, you will need to provide evidence of your salary or benefits.
If you have achieved the qualification to be studied previously, or have an existing qualification at a higher level, then fees will apply.
The course requires a good level of commitment, including a high level of attendance and punctuality, to avoid missing important information and topics. Home study is an important part of the programme to ensure effective development and retention of skills.

This course can also open up opportunities to a range of university courses and career prospects requiring GCSE Maths.
There is no formal entry criteria for this course, however candidates are required to sit a short assessment to evaluate current skills, alongside an interview. This will be arranged through our Admissions Team on receipt of an online application.
This course costs £500.00, including exam fees.
You may be eligible for free study if you are 23 or under and this is your first full Level 2 or 3 course. Alternatively, if you are unemployed, receiving an eligible benefit, and taking the course to help you find employment.
