This 34 week course is designed for students who have an interest in developing skills and knowledge related to gaining employment.
Whilst on the course you will gain practical work experience through working in the College shop, undertaking administration duties and creating a business enterprise.
Topics studied include:
The retail sector
The selling process
Customer service
Cash/card handling
Stock control
Health and safety in the workplace
All students aged 16 -19 are also required to study Functional Skills English and Maths qualifications or GCSE Maths and English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study Maths and/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths and English Functional Skills.
Depending on time of year, prior knowledge and qualifications, you could achieve a Level 1 Certificate in Skills for Working in Business, Admin and Customer Service.
This course can lead to further Full Time study on a Level 2 course or entry into employment in the retail sector.
No formal qualifications are required for this course but a willingness to work towards a Maths, English or IT qualification is essential. You must have commitment to your studies, enjoy working with other people and be willing to undertake a range of learning activities.
