This course is a great way to start your career in the plastering trade. You will develop basic plastering skills in order to progress into further studies or employment, such as applying wet finishes to walls, ceilings and dry lining.
As a plasterer you’ll need a good head for heights and good attention to detail, as well as being physically fit and prepared to work hard.
Your main challenge is to enjoy your work, take part in activities and try to make each piece of work better than the last. You will study the following:
Skimming
Rendering
Plaster boarding
Repairing plasterwork
Coving
Bonding & sub structure
Health & safety
Understanding and how to secure a job in the Construction industry
Self-employment
All LMC students will receive tutorial support and take a programme of Functional Skills including English & Maths.
LMC has guest speakers along with joint events for all students. There is also an excellent opportunity to take part in National Citizen Service (NCS) which gives learners opportunities for bonding and stepping outside of their comfort zones.
Upon course completion many of our students choose to progress onto the Level 2 Plastering course, while some students choose to progress onto the Level 2 Plastering Apprenticeship programme.

Estimating & Site Management

To study this course you must:
Have an enthusiasm for the subject area
Show a commitment to study
Be able to work independently
You must also have 3 GCSEs at grade G/1 or higher PLUS grade F/2 or higher in English & Maths.
All students aged 16 -19 are required to study Functional Skills English & Maths qualifications or GCSE English & Maths if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects.
If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study English &/or Maths GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of English & Maths Functional Skills.
