This is a Full Time, one year course that is geared towards a career in the fast growing Sports industry. You will be in College for two full days per week and will be expected to undertake regular home study. You will develop your knowledge of the theory and application of Sport and coaching within sporting environments. You will assess and evaluate your personal and vocational skills which are mapped to the requirements of employers in the Sports industry. During this course you will also enhance your knowledge of the skills and behaviours that underpin Sport which will prepare you for further study or employment.
On completion of the course you will receive a Pearson BTEC Level 4 HNC in Sport which is nationally recognised by employers, professional bodies, universities and colleges. This qualification prepares students for higher level careers in the Sports and Leisure industry.
HNC Sport students will engage in a range of practical sessions to develop their industry knowledge and skills. These will include using technology to analyse sporting performance, leading sports coaching sessions and conducting observations of professional athletes and sports coaches.
You will enhance your presentation skills with the delivery of their project findings which will also develop your communication and verbal skills.
You will engage with a range of guest speakers to enhance your understanding of future career opportunities and study progression. Guest speakers include Sport Development Officers, Professional Football Coaches, Fitness and Personal Trainers and University Careers Officers.
HNC Sport students will have the opportunity to go on European visits to Poland, Slovakia & Bulgaria to experience these countries’ cultural differences, learn from their peers and develop knowledge of other nations’ sports coaching techniques.
HNC Sport students can access work placement with a range of provider links who LMC work with to enhance their career relevant industry & employability skills.
You will have a comprehensive tutorial programme which will deliver a range of sessions to support your personal development and life skills. These will include sessions such as Safe Drive Stay Alive, BRAVE, Lateral Thinking, UCAS, Drug and Alcohol Awareness and social issues in the community.

Sport at LMC has a vast array of industry links which enable students to learn and gain experience from industry professionals from a range of different sports. These include a long and successful partnership with Morecambe Football Club’s First Team, Academy and Football in the Community.
LMC Sport also work with Steven Jamieson from Lancaster Schools Sports Network Partnership to support and deliver a range of sports coaching sessions to the local community. The Sport department also work with Lancashire FA, AoC Sport, University of Cumbria, University of Central Lancashire and Salt Ayre Leisure Centre amongst many others. These links enable students to gain an excellent insight into aspects of what life would be like if they followed careers in these respective sporting routes.
Completing this course is the equivalent to completing the first year of a university degree. On successful completion of the HNC Level 4, students will have the opportunity to progress on to the HND Level 5 in Sport qualification at LMC. Students can progress from the HND level 5 on to a top-up degree with one of our partner institutions at University of Cumbria or University of Central Lancashire. Students will also be able to gain employment in the Sports industry with the qualification they achieve.

To study this course you will need a Sport Level 3 Extended Diploma at Merit/Pass/Pass or above or another relevant qualification with a minimum of 64 UCAS points, PLUS GCSE English and Maths at grade C/4 or higher.
You will also need enthusiasm for the subject with a commitment to study, and show good skills in practical subjects.
If you are over 19 years of age, you may be accepted without formal qualifications particularly if you have had relevant experience.
