The Pathway to Sport & Public Services course is designed to support students with additional learning requirements in order to progress. The classes are smaller and enriched with practical elements to best engage the learners, who will also study a Level 1 or 2 (depending on prior learning) qualification in Sport & Public Services. The qualification offers an overview of the Sport & Public Services industries, including both practical and theoretical elements and assessments.

Pathway programmes at LMC meet the needs of a broad range of learners, including those who may have disengaged from learning in the past or not achieved their full potential. This course offers learners the opportunity to achieve their best outcomes.

Course Overview

The objectives of this qualification are to provide you with:

  • Understanding of Sport & Public Service Sector

  • Develop social and soft skills needed for progression

  • Focus on gaining Maths & English qualifications

  • Coaching groups in College

  • Leading sport tournaments

Students on this course are also offered lots of extra-curricular opportunities, including:

  • Duke of Edinburgh (Bronze)

  • National Citizen Service

  • Outdoor activities e.g. orienteering, hill walking

  • Access to pan-ability football teams

  • Access to trial for LMC Football Academy

  • Tackling Inactivity participation sessions

All students aged 16 -19 are also required to study Functional Skills Maths& Englishqualifications or GCSE Maths & English if not already awarded a grade C/4 or higher in these subjects. If you have a grade D/3 at GCSE you will study Maths &/or English GCSE. Students with a grade lower than D/3 will work towards GCSE through the study of Maths & English Functional Skills.

There will be an additional cost of £75 once enrolled on to this course to cover the following:

  • Sports Kit

  • DofE Enrolment

  • Trips

Industry Links

As part of this course, students are responsible for completing 50 hours of work placement or work-related opportunities with the support from teaching staff, which is a great opportunity to find relevant work experience in their own communities.

Students will also gain experience of the sports industry by running voluntary tournaments on campus for visiting colleges and schools, as well creating a volunteering project as part of the DofE/NCS programmes.

Progression Routes

This course can lead to further Full Time study on a Level 2 course, a Traineeship or entry into employment in the Sport & Public Services sector.

Students are able to study Sport & Public Services Pathway over the course of two years where extra development is required.

Entry Requirements

No formal qualifications are required for this course but a willingness to work towards a Maths, English or IT qualification is essential. Youmust have commitment to studies, enjoy working with other people and be willing to undertake a range of learning activities.
