The T Level Technical Qualification in Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing allows you to gain an understanding of what is needed to work within the engineering industry.

Topics covered include maintenance, installation and repair requirements, fault detection and diagnosis, isolation and resolution methods and communication for maintenance, installation and repair activities.

This qualification is aimed at those aged 16-19-years old who wish to work in the engineering and manufacturing industry.

T Levels are equivalent to three A Levels. These two-year courses have been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares learners for work.

A 315-hour (45 day) minimum industry placement will be required on this course.

Course Overview

What you will learn on this course:

You will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including:

  • working within the Engineering and Manufacturing Sectors –an understanding of how materials, conditions and context influence design processes and products

  • essential mathematics for engineering and manufacturing –a knowledge and understanding of mathematics including standard matrices and determinants and standard trigonometry

  • materials and their properties –understanding material processing techniques and their effects on materials and material quality, the condition of materials, how these are managed, and materials testing methods and techniques

  • business, commercial and financial awareness - basic commercial principles including commercial priorities and markets, customers/clients/partners and resource allocation

OPTIONS TO SPECIALISE

At LMC we offer two options.

Design and Development for Engineering and Manufacturing T level – Electronic and Electrical

OR

Maintenance, Installation and Repair for Engineering and Manufacturing - Mechanical

You will complete a work-based project in your specialism.

EQUIVALENT TO 3 A LEVELS AND AWARDED UCAS POINTS

This T Level will be worth UCAS points (a T Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A levels at A*) and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish.

Industry Links

This course involves a substantial industry placement with an external employer. There is a requirement on the T Level qualification to complete a minimum of 315 hours in a placement setting.

You will work with an external business industry employer to apply knowledge and develop technical skills in a real-life business workplace.

The content for this qualification was devised by T Level panels consisting of employers and stakeholders in the industry, and has been developed in collaboration with employers and businesses to ensure the content prepares learners for the world of work.

Entry Requirements

T Levels are one of your options after you’ve finished GCSEs.

Entry requirements – You are recommended to have 5 GCSEs at grade 4 and above including English (grade 5), mathematics (grade 5) and Science

To study this course, you must have:

  • enthusiasm for the subject/area

  • evidence of good skills in practical subjects

  • commitment to study (attendance, punctuality & behaviour)

  • be able to work independently

  • good interpersonal skills
