Although not crucial, it is preferred that you have completed the Level 2 Media Make-up & Hair course or a Level 2 in Hairdressing or Beauty Therapy course before progressing onto this Level 3 course, as this will provide you with a skill set in readiness for the Level 3 course and it’s more challenging content.

On completion of the course you will not only gain a Level 3 diploma from City and Guilds - you will also be awarded 32 UCAS points which can be used to assist entry into University.

Each year there are various trips organised by the department which relate to your course - some are free and others may incur a small cost. One example is our visit to Media City Manchester on the BBC tour.

The College also welcomes in guest speakers including Steiner Cruise Liner representatives who carry out a presentation about what is involved when working on a cruise ship and inform students about their recruitment days. We have also had guest speakers from make-up companies such as Kryolan, who carry out workshops with the group.

In addition we also encourage students to take part in internal competitions between their peers throughout the year.

Industry Links

As part of this course you will take part in a 2 week work placement in a hair & beauty environment of your choice, this may include a beauty salon, hair salon or make-up counter.

Over the last few years we have also completed group work in local schools by managing hair & make-up for their dance and drama productions.

We believe it is important for you to get as much industry experience as possible so we encourage students to carry out voluntary work in local theatres, dance studios and at themed events. This helps students practice their skills as well as get their name known by people in the industry.
