This Level 1 course in TIG Welding focusses on using a high frequency TIG torch and manually fed filler wire to produce a range of joints in the vertical position, to be inspected via destructive testing.
Covering the basics of setting up, maintaining your equipment to tacking, welding various joint configurations and positions, you will develop skills, knowledge and confidence to tackle basic fabrication requirements whether at home or in the workplace.
The course requires the completion of 5 welded test pieces in the chosen process, and an oral examination. The assessment joints will be worked through over the duration of the course and typically include Lap, Corner, Tee and Butt, in the PA, PB and PF positions. The final outcome is an oral examination covering various aspects of welding including Health & Safety, and process specific questions on machinery, technique and common defects.
There are a total of 6 outcomes which make up the qualification:
5 practical (83%)
1 theoretical (17%)
Theory material will be provided for home reading if so desired, but the content required to pass the theoretical aspect of the course will be delivered during the workshop sessions.
