This future-forward Level 3 Diploma, developed by Pearson in partnership with the British Esports Federation, is designed to help learners channel their passion for gaming into successful and skilled careers in the rapidly growing industry.

In 2022, the global Esports market was valued at just over 1.38 billion U.S. dollars. Additionally, the eSports industry's global market revenue was forecast to grow to as much as 1.87 billion US dollars in 2025 with expectations of further growth in years to come as Esports, and more specifically video game streaming, are making their way into popular culture. (statista.com 2022)

As of 2022, the worldwide eSports audience size reached 532 million people. In the years to come, more and more viewers are expected to tune in to watch their favourite games being played by some of the best gamers in the world. By 2025, there are expected to be over 640 million viewers of eSports worldwide. (statista.com 2022)

You will gain a wide variety of transferable skills preparing you for success within the business, creative and gaming industries with key skills taught including leadership, problem solving, strategic thinking, cyber skills, time management and event planning.

Course Overview

The Level 3 Extended Diploma in Esports is a two-year course equivalent to 3 A-Levels. The course introduces you to a broad range of transferable skills across a landscape of digital disciplines, allowing you to develop the practical skills and theoretical knowledge needed to explore your aptitude and ambition within the subject area.

The course has a strong emphasis on giving you a range of necessary skills across a number of disciplines related to Esports, business and the media industry. Key elements of Esports at LMC include:

  • Esports Skills, Strategies & Analysis

  • Esports Coaching

  • Video Production

  • Games Design

  • Enterprise & Entrepreneurship in Esports

  • Health, Wellbeing & Fitness for Esports

  • Producing an Esports Brand

  • Esports Events

This course is demanding in terms of written work and practical outcomes, and you are expected to keep detailed journals/technical notes throughout to demonstrate your learning. There is also the expectation that you will develop a greater understanding of the Esports/media industry and issues in a broader context.


Where possible we work with relevant guest speakers and visitors to further enhance the student experience. There are opportunities to work on local and national projects that serve to not only develop technical skills but also interpersonal skills while gaining essential industry working experience.

As part of the main programme you will be responsible for creating a brand, designing a logo and handling the student run Esports_LMC social media channels. They will also be expected to develop a real life Esports event from initial creation through to managing and hosting the event.

There are many opportunities for trips and visits so that students get as much industry exposure as possible. This may include university visits, media workshops, Animex and gaming events such as Euro Gamer Expo (EGX) and Insomnia. There may also be an opportunity to visit London visiting Harry Potter Studios, attending London’s West End to watch various shows and seeing the famous sights.

On this course we often work with internal and external clients as we think it is important for students to work in a real world environment gaining essential experience and negotiating with real clients.

Progression Routes

Most students will likely continue their studies via a Level 4 course, such as the Creative Digital Media HNC/HND, or go on to university after completing their two-year Extended Diploma. Creative Digital Media students in similar areas have gone on to study at University of Central Lancashire, Manchester Metropolitan University, Future Works and Teesside University to name but a few.

Upon completion of the course, you will have the opportunity to work in the Esports industry in a variety of exciting roles such as:

Alternatively, you may use the transferable skills you have developed to enter the digital industry in one of many tech-related roles such as:

Entry Requirements

Students must have a minimum of 5 GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher, including English and Maths.

Learners will also need to have interest and enthusiasm for Esports and be able to demonstrate commitment to their study in terms of attendance, punctuality and behaviour, as well as a willingness to participate in group work.
