Lancaster & Morecambe College have been running European work experience projects for over fifteen years and were one of the first colleges in the UK to receive the Leonardo Certificate in Quality for Mobility. (Mobility in this context means a period of training, learning or work experience abroad). This was in recognition of our commitment to offering high-quality European work placements and developing a strategic approach to embedding this activity across all curriculum areas.
We are now at the end of the Erasmus+ funding programme and due to changes brought about by BREXIT, we are having to explore new funding opportunities to continue these vital learning experiences. Over previous years we have secured EU funding for Construction & Engineering placements in Denmark, Hospitality, Tourism & Business placements in Italy, Animal Care shadowing in Poland and Sports Leadership & Coaching placements in the Netherlands, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic our international activity has been restricted over the last 2 academic years. However, we have still been able to send two groups of football studies students to a training camp in Alicante, Spain in November 2021 and June 2022 as part of our remaining Erasmus+ project, ‘Creating Leaders in Nurturing Talent’.
We are now in the process of applying for funding via the UK Turing Scheme and hope to be able to offer new and exciting international opportunities in the coming years.
LMC is celebrating over two decades of participation in international projects and we invite participant photos, videos and stories demonstrating mobility experiences abroad. We want to encourage the possibility of studying, working and living abroad for future students so please contact our International Team via email or phone for more information.
