Four lucky students were given the opportunity to travel to Denmark as part of an Erasmus+ funded work placement to Lancaster’s twin city, Aalborg.
Two plumbing apprentices; Sam Attard from North West Plumbing & Heating Services in Barrow-in-Furness and Cameron Willis From Gas Water Heating also based in Barrow-in-Furness. We have also taken two fabrication and welding students; Apprentice Dave Martin from Michael Mudd Ltd and Drew Nicholson an LMC Level 2 Fabrication & Welding student.
Speaking from Aalborg, Plumbing tutor Helen Williams, who is leading the placement explained, “The students will be spending three weeks working in Aalborg, Denmark. The Plumbing students are with heating contractor Blikas Aalborg A/S and the welders are working alongside other students and staff at the Tech College building a fire breathing dragon. Exciting stuff!
At the Tech College, Drew and Dave will be gaining experience using CAD and demonstrating their welding skills as they work on a fire breathing dragon for a carnival in Aalborg.
The plumbers have already met their new boss at Blikad and selected which site they want to work on. This experience has already pushed the students out of their comfort zone as the plumbing industry here is somewhat different to the UK.
Cameron will be gaining new skills on a new build site, learning how to work with steel and new techniques whereas Sam is working on social housing renovations and will also be gaining new skills within the industry.”
