The Man With The Hat, a Heysham-based grounds care and landscaping company, was struggling to repair it's machinery as it aged with general wear and tear and called upon LMC to help.
Hennie Ferreira, the owner of the company who hails from South Africa, got in touch with Lancaster & Morecambe College to see what services we would be able to provide, whilst also giving our students the perfect real-world experience working towards clients' expecations.
With the help of tutors, Ethan Briggs-Dixon and Christian Cynch, from our Fabrication & Welding Level 1 course, got to work measuring up the old machine bonnet that was perishing beyond repair, and salvaged all of the parts possible before getting to work. Using their knowledge from the courses they are studying, they were able to use 2D CAD drawings and plasma cutting to create a new bonnet and even incorporate the company logo throughout.
The students used stainless and aluminium compontents and fixings to ensure the bonnet will not only fit but also stand the test of time, making it weatherproof and fit for purpose. Other skills the students got to use included sawing and filing components, cutting mesh to size, dry fitting and also welding.
Hennie was very pleased with the end result and popped back into College to show the students their hard work in situ on his machinery.
The boys have done a brilliant job getting my machine back to working order. It will really stand the test of time now and keep me working for even longer! Thank you!
Well done to Ethan and Christian, it looks amazing!
