A group of Hospitality & Catering students recently travelled from College all the way down to Dover to catch the ferry across to Calais for an exciting trip to the French capital. For some students, this was their first trip abroad so, although it was a long journey, it was an exciting experience.
Once they arrived at their hotel, close to Disneyland Paris, they .checked in and unpacked in their own villas, The group enjoyed an evening meal in the hotel before getting a good nights rest, ready for the day of exploring Paris that followed.
This started with a whistle-stop tour around the most famous landmarks of Paris, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, The Louvre and more, to really show the students what Paris has to offer and the weather could not have been better. In the afternoon, the group split into two, with one group heading over to a French restaurant to sample the local delicacies while the other group made the first trip to a traditional French bakery Le Petit Mitron to learn the art of baking breads, rolling croissants and even milling flour.
Le Petit Mitron bakery, is owned by Chef Didier Lavry, and he welcomed our students to take a look at what it takes to be a chef and work with traditional ingredients and methods. The group started by stretching bread for baguettes, scoring them for baking, perfecting the cooking temperatures and getting to sample the bread fresh from the oven.
Then it was into the second room of the bakery to roll croissants, fold in butter to the layers and take a look at Didier’s own flour milling machine and how he gets the perfect amount of chocolate in his pastries. The second group then got to experience the magic of the traditional bakery, while the others headed to a nearby café to sample the local coffee and mocktail menu. Didier and his team were so welcoming and knowledgeable, and the students thoroughly enjoyed their time in the bakery; it was a real highlight of the trip.
The day was rounded up nicely with a relaxing cruise down the River Seine, where the group got to see Paris by night. The lights, atmosphere and cold night air was a memorable experience for everyone, after a long day exploring the city. Another highlight of the day was watching the Eiffel Tower sparkle on the hour at 8pm, a real spectacle to witness in person.

I really enjoyed going round Paris and looking around and spending time with everyone!
This day was the long-awaited Disney day, something all of the students were looking forward to. They were all up early for breakfast before heading over to the park, which was only 5 minutes away.
The students were given free roaming of both Disneyland Paris and Disney Park Studios all dayso they could really explore and experience all the rides, sample the Disney themed foods and meet together to watch the magical electric sky parade and firework display at the end of the day. Remy's Ratatouille Adventure ride was a favourite of many of the group. It is an immersive experience through French kitchens in the body of a rat trying to get their hands on croissants, steaks and champagne; they are hospitality and catering students after all!

I really enjoyed Paris! It was a beautiful place to be, I would love to go again. I had a brilliant time, and my favourite bit was visiting Disneyland, it was magical place. I would like to say thank you so much to all the staff for a lovely time and for looking after me, I appreciated this trip.
The last day was bittersweet as some students were looking forward to getting home but not wanting the amazing trip to end. It was a long day travelling back to England on the coach and ferry but all worth if for an experience they will not forget in a hurry.
A huge well done and thank you to the staff members who managed the trip without a hitch. Watch this space for Paris 2025!
