Positive Prospects for our NEET Students

Posted: 07.10.2024

Ray and Evi, part of our NEET team (students who are not in employment, education, or training or at risk of) have recently been putting the 360 Igloo to use to support students who are struggling to attend their courses and need a bit of extra support.

Using the 360 virtual reality space, they are able to re-evaluate students' course choices and look at alternatives in a much more interactive way rather than sat in a traditional classroom.

Over the past few months, there have been a number of referrals from external agencies and self-referrals for those who might struggle with the transition to College from either school or home-schooling or those who didn't sit their GCSE's and are finding it hard to get back into education.

Some of these referrals have been challenging as changing someone's entire routine takes time to adjust and get right but once they are here, we are seeing great results of growth in confidence and the desire to want to learn again.

In some cases, getting back into education can be a sensory overload with numerous tutors, homework, other students and the College environment can be overwhelming so a huge element of the Positive Prospects framework is to encourage confidence and social skills to better assist those situations.

This half-term the team are providing a workshop for 3 days to offer young people the opportunity to build on confidence, social skills and basic life/employability skills alongside a first aid qualification and taster sessions in carious areas of the College.
