We're celebrating our latest Ofsted inspection which graded the College as GOOD and recognises the improvements which have been introduced since their previous visit.
90% of students go straight into employment or further study after completing their course at College.
We have a successful, long-standing history of offering European Work Placements for our students, helping them gain a foothold in their chosen careers as well as a better understanding of the wider world.
Last year, alongside trips to Italy and Spain, we expanded these opportunities even further with exciting industry placements in the Caribbean, New York and Canada. These fully-funded trips offer our students the opportunity to develop confidence and employability skills, working alongside their peers from other countries and with students from different educational backgrounds. I love to see the difference between a student starting the course and then when they leave their course. They always gain confidence thanks to their new skills and it's amazing to see them leave with their qualification knowing that I have contributed in helping them achieve it.
My favourite part of my job is helping people achieve their GCSE English, a key qualification which will open doors for them in the future.
I enjoy teaching this qualification a lot because all the apprentices show a real passion for the hairdressing industry. They all leave the course with the skills and knowledge to build their own client bases or set up their own businesses within the hair industry. Seeing the learners confidence grow more and more each week is my favourite part of the role.
If you want the opportunity to use and develop practical skills, learn about an accessible vocational area, have fun, work hard and deal with the public then this is the course for you. LMC is a great community asset and I think the local district are lucky to have such a modern, flexible and engaging place of education.
It’s really difficult to state just one thing I love about working at Lancaster & Morecambe College because there are so many! I really wanted to work here because the college has a fantastic reputation. I love introducing new ways of working and keeping up with relevant trends to improve the course, and I really enjoy the supportive environment that we create for our students.
If you are interested in finding out more about how children learn and how we best support them, are considering a career in education, child psychology or social work put LMC at the top of your list! We have excellent industry links for placement experience and combined with our experienced and highly qualified lecturers, we can give you a real edge in the world of work or applying for university.
My favourite part of working at Lancaster & Morecambe college is watching students progress and supporting them with their learning. I also love knowing they are learning within a hairdressing environment and being able to see them develop their skills and knowledge in hairdressing.
I would say come to College, study Beauty Therapy, be pampered, pamper clients, but be prepared to work hard for the qualifications to get far in the industry. It's a very rewarding career to go into, putting smiles on clients faces and giving them a new found confidence.
My role is to work alongside the tutors and students to ensure the work placements are secured, completed and recorded in line with procedural requirements. This is a simple description, as there is a lot of work behind the scenes to ensure this happens! I see good communication, administration, attention to detail and patience as key attributes of the role.
Welding particularly is like lego for adults – its great fun making things. Whereas Engineering will teach you why things are made the way they are and a combination of both will give you the skills to make almost anything you can think of! Why not give it a go!
If you are interested in working with animals, this is a great course for you! As not only do you gain the knowledge and practical skills to work with animals, but you also gain the employability skills to be able to work in teams and work within the industry. It's important to remember that jobs in the animal industry are not just about working with animals, you need to have the skills to deal with people too!
I would recommend LMC as a fantastic place to study sport and continue your development and interests in football. Your studies link to your football development as much as possible, helping you gain the knowledge, skills and experiences to pursue a career in sport in the future.
My favourite part of my role is helping my students take the first step towards fulfilling their ambitions to go to university and, eventually, progressing into their dream careers.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge and experience of animals with students and seeing a learners journey as they make progress. The best part of teaching the course would definitely be the experience we offer learners, it's a unique and hands on way of developing their knowledge of working with animals.
I love working with people of all ages and backgrounds and seeing them make progress and achieve their qualifications, sometimes in “small” ways, such as remembering how to do a written multiplication.
