Dave started working at Lancaster & Morecambe College in January 2017 after 20+ years of working in the railway industry.
Delivering the Level 1 Electrical Installation course allows Dave to recall on his industry knowledge and pass his skills onto the next generation of electricians.

In his previous role as an Electrical and Mechanical Engineer in the railway industry, Dave had a variety of resonsibilities such as: general maintenance, testing, fault finding of all electrical and mechanical systems, including track circuits, train protection warning systems (TPWS) and control barriers.
I have an extensive knowledge of the railway industry and how all the technical systems operate, gained from my 21 years experience. As well as my Mechanical and Engineering duties, I was also a qualified Controller of Site Safety. I was responsible for organising and implementing safe systems of work to be carried out on a live railway network, which involved lisasing with various operations personnel, giving safety briefs to staff and completing all the required paperwork.

Welding particularly is like lego for adults – its great fun making things. Whereas Engineering will teach you why things are made the way they are and a combination of both will give you the skills to make almost anything you can think of! Why not give it a go!
Try to achieve the best grades you can. As a qualified Carpenter or Joiner, you will have the opportunity to work anywhere in the world.
Be prepared to work hard and be challenged. The more you put in, the more you will get out of the course. It's a rewarding experience as you can clearly see your skills develop. There is also a great demand for skilled plasterers and the potential for good earnings, so why not give it a go?
