My favourite part of my job is helping people achieve their GCSE English, a key qualification which will open doors for them in the future.
Deb Williams started teaching at Lancaster and Morecambe College in August 2000. She came to LMC to help give excluded Year 11's a second chance and an opportunity at a fresh start in a new vocational environment.
Prior to working at LMC, Deb was a Youth Worker in Carlisle where she ran projects to aid young people at risk of being involved with crime. She than taught English at Preston College.
My favourite part of my job is helping people achieve their GCSE English, a key qualification which will open doors for them in the future. I also really enjoy the fun and interesting conversations I get to have with my learners. In the teacher education side my favourite part is helping trainee teachers gain confidence and knowledge in their new role.
When asked about why she enjoys working at College, Deb said:
I enjoy that I am contributing to the wider community, by supplying them with the knowledge to progress further in their personal and professional lives.
In regards to the teaching course that she delivers, Deb said:
Teaching is a challenging but very rewarding job. It takes a whole career to learn how to do it well – this course will give you a great start on that journey. The teacher training courses give lots of opportunity for interesting discussions and reading about the latest research in how people learn best. They focus on what really works in the classroom or workshop environment.
The most satisfying part of my job role is inspiring students to have the confidence to become beauty therapists and work in their dream careers.
I would recommend LMC as a fantastic place to study sport and continue your development and interests in football. Your studies link to your football development as much as possible, helping you gain the knowledge, skills and experiences to pursue a career in sport in the future.
My favourite part of working at Lancaster & Morecambe college is watching students progress and supporting them with their learning. I also love knowing they are learning within a hairdressing environment and being able to see them develop their skills and knowledge in hairdressing.
In my role as a course tutor I’m responsible for ensuring that my students develop in many areas, and not just Hairdressing. I like to encourage my students to improve their well-being as well as support them with their personal development and learning journey, to gain the knowledge to be successful within their course to achieve the qualifications they need to progress in the industry.
It’s really difficult to state just one thing I love about working at Lancaster & Morecambe College because there are so many! I really wanted to work here because the college has a fantastic reputation. I love introducing new ways of working and keeping up with relevant trends to improve the course, and I really enjoy the supportive environment that we create for our students.
Welding particularly is like lego for adults – its great fun making things. Whereas Engineering will teach you why things are made the way they are and a combination of both will give you the skills to make almost anything you can think of! Why not give it a go!
