Be prepared to work hard and be challenged. The more you put in, the more you will get out of the course. It's a rewarding experience as you can clearly see your skills develop. There is also a great demand for skilled plasterers and the potential for good earnings, so why not give it a go?

Duane has been teaching Plastering at Lancaster & Morecambe for over 5 years after over 30 years working within the trade.

Duane got into teaching through his love for plastering and a desire to share his experience with the next generation of plasterers. He spent around 15 years on domestic work covering all aspects of internal and external work. He also did around 16 years on site work learning new a different techniques such as: rendering, dry lining, boarding and skimming.

I saw teaching as a great opportunity to share and pass on my plastering skills and knowledge. It's rewarding to see the learners turn it into a career and  even the potential of them creating their own businesses in the future.

As a tutor at LMC Duane teaches Plastering level 1 and Plastering level 2, he also teaches the part time adult class. He teaches all aspects of plastering including dry walling, skimming, rendering, screeding, metal framework and moulding.

As a tutor, I provide students with the theory and knowledge behind all the practical elements to help them strengthen their skills, as plastering is more than just the practical side. I also cover health and safety as this is very important knowledge the students will need to progress further. Aside from plastering I also deliver tutorial sessions to my students where we cover basic life skills.

When asked what he would say to someone thinking of studying plastering, Duane said:
