We have a very knowledgeable and dedicated team from different areas of the animal industry. We offer a range of courses in Animal Studies at different levels to cater for a wide range of students. Practically, you will work with a range of animals on site, spend time in our laboratories and hone your skills further during independent work-related experience. Working with animals can be a fun and rewarding career but it does involve hard graft and dedication!

Elaine joined the Animal Studies team here at Lancaster & Morecambe College in the Summer of 2010. Prior to working here, she spent many years working in the animal industry. Having completed a degree in Zoology and working in the industry for many years, Elaine applied for a role at the C0llege, as she felt like teaching was the natural progression route for her, as she felt like the dynamic range of topics, wide range of species on site and the mix of theory and practical sessions, made the teaching role appealing.

The animal sector is exciting and always evolving, which is one of Elaine's favourite things about the industry. The courses are designed to mimic industry and we are constantly developing them to tailor to real life, a new addition being the T-Level in Animal Management, which is an exciting venture for both students and staff as it is designed to incorporate a minimum of 45 days work placements!

My favourite part of  working at LMC is when students have that lightbulb moment, achieve their qualification or grow in personal confidence. It has been rewarding to see some of our alumni students working in the local area within a variety of industries. I also really enjoy working in a supportive, fun, like-minded team.

The Animal Studies industry is always evolving and we are excited to be developing new courses including the T-Level in Animal Management and Level 3 Forensic Science.

Elaine is responsible for teaching the Level 3 courses, including the NEW T-Level course, and also teaches a variety of topics on the Level 1 and Level 2 Animal Studies courses.

When asked what she would say to someone thinking of studying an Animal or Science course, Elaine said:

Be prepared to work hard in order to develop your knowledge, skills and reach industry standard behaviours for future employment in the industry. You also need to be prepared to get involved in all aspects of the course including theory and practical sessions. The courses are not just about cuddling animals, but learning the intricacies of meeting their needs, as well as the scientific ins and outs of animals.

We have a very knowledgeable and dedicated team from different areas of the animal industry, and offer a range of courses in Animal Studies at different levels to cater for a wide range of students. Working with animals can be a fun and rewarding career, but it does involve hard graft and dedication our Animal courses cover all core subjects as well as specialising in wildlife, ecology and conservation.
